Ceftriaxone Na 1 g, sulbactam Na 500 mg
Indications/Uses
Lower resp tract infections, acute bacterial otitis media, skin & skin structure infections, UTI (complicated & uncomplicated), pelvic inflammatory disease, bacterial septicemia, bone & joint infections, intra-abdominal infections, meningitis, STD & surgical prophylaxis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV/IM Adult Ceftriaxone 1-2 g once daily or bid depending on the severity of infections. Max: 4 g/day. Ped patient Skin & skin structure infections Ceftriaxone 50-75 mg/kg once daily or bid. Max: 1 g/day. Acute bacterial otitis media Ceftriaxone 50 mg/kg as single IM dose not exceeding 1 g. Serious miscellaneous infection other than meningitis Ceftriaxone 50-75 mg/kg every 12 hr. Max: 2 g/day. Treatment of minorities Initially ceftriaxone 100 mg/kg once daily or every 12 hr. Max: 4 g/day. Duration of therapy: 7-14 days, 4-14 days, longer therapy in complicated infections, 10 days (for infections caused by Strep pyogenes). Patient w/ CrCl <30 mL/min Max: Sulbactam 500 mg every 12 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ceftriaxone, sulbactam or penicillin.
Special Precautions
Nephrotoxic potential. Monitor prothrombin time in patients w/ impaired vit K synthesis or low vit K stores (eg, chronic hepatic disease & malnutrition). Prolonged use. Colitis. Renal & hepatic dysfunction.
Adverse Reactions
Pain, induration & tenderness. Phlebitis. Rash. Diarrhea. SGOT elevations.
Drug Interactions
Diuretics, aminoglycosides, alcohol, chloramphenicol, Coombs' test, OCs & probenecid.
